Question 2

Question 2: Do you think Yemen needs assistance from the international community to deal with the issue of terrorism?

If so, which countries should be involved in assisting Yemen?

What kind of support should these countries offer to Yemen (military support? political support? financial support?..etc)

Yes we do need help, politically and financially. We need the help from the countries who has power on us, and can force the corrupted government to obey the rules, otherwise if there is no power or follow-ups, whatever they’ll do is useless.

Any involvement by any country to combat terrorism in Yemen will lead to more problems in the country. The west has proven its ineptness in combating the ideology of the terrorists around the world and wherever they were directly involved the situation spiraled to the worst leading to the creation of more and more extremists and the dismay and victimization of the locals. Yemen has the ability to combat the terrorists and to defeat their ideology, however any foreign involvement will just play into the benefit of the terrorists in their effort to gain the sympathy of the masses.

What Yemen can benefit from are partners in development. If any country is willing to send troupes let them send teachers and educators instead. If they are interested in building a military base let them build a public library instead. Development and prosperity are the only cure. Yemenis maybe poor because of the corruption and the mismanagement of the country, but Yemen is rich and beautiful.

There is a need for international support to Yemen in it’s fight against terrorism. The primary support should be political and economic development. The international community should push towards a truely democratic political system in Yemen. Such a system coupled with economic development at the local level guarantee a lasting partnership between local communities in Yemen and different anti-terrorism stakeholders.

There is one problem though, this financial aid and foreign training are useless. Look at afghanistan… IF yemen does turn into that, whats the point? Second of all, most of the financial aid and war on terror is an act of profiteering and a public stunt. Democracy in Yemen clearly doesnt work… whatever might define democracy. The tribe and the Army are in a sense intertwined.
